THE WOODEN LAGGAGE (JANDI) ART OF HALA

            The work of handicraft in Sindh is famous for a long age but this time the craftsmanship and used of wood is quit famous In Hala the city of Matiari district, where different arts and designs are being innovated and that are worth of admired not only in Sindh but also across Pakistan and some of countries like, turkey, Egypt, china and Iran.

Before two century of today the reserved wood in coastal areas were found by Kalhoras caste, which was useless but due to less conveniences in that period they were living in, they started exploit of it into different work of use, bit by bit they made many material and become craftsmanship on it and they had left for Hala old from coastal where they were living.

There are two names of Hala city “new Hala and purana Hala” it is said that after they had left for Hala they started work on wood in overwhelming and become worthy of admirable.

The designs wood art are being innovated day by day and the use of colors in the wood art is that much necessary as the soused used with meal. The method of the used of wood art is, the handicrafts polish wood by their hands and put it before sunlight for dry and after they draw colors so carefully on it and put it under the heat so that it became stick up to the knockers and then they start make material they sell it. The colors in that wood art are don’t obliterate for up to 25 years.

There are different kinds of wood that are used in wooden art but the wooden luggage which are made.

1-      Four-Ply/Cot

2-      Cradle

3-      Designed belt

4-      Small cots

5-      Beauty boxes

6-      Chairs

7-      Dinner table, tables.

And there is lot of work which is being done today on this baggage of wood art and quit a useful in our life at home, office, shops, restaurant, and in different occupation.

The art of wood is famous but in that the most thinks sell out and shopping are that like, cradle, small cot and cot is much admirable across Sindh and Pakistan because the people of Sindh prefer Four-Ply/Cot over any modern sofa.

In this world, the art of wooden luggage is being sold in very expensive prices but in Hala the art of wood is being sold in cheap prices, so that the poor also could use it in their homes because the handicraftsmen think that the wood art is for everyone and it’s our cultural luggage so every people of Sindh has right to use it in their homes. The wood art is the actually beauty of havelis, bungalows, and also the beauty of a poor people homes.
